William H. Patton was a courageous World War II veteran, a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, he re-enlisted in the Navy and served for several more years.
Patton was the father of Captain Mike Patton, of the Chicago Police Department. Regrettably, Mike was away in training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, at the time of his father's death on August 1st, 1997.Over the years Bill Patton & Mary, his wife, became very close with Mike's police co-workers and friends on the force. They all delighted in vacationing together at their condo community in Largo, Florida called Woodside Village.
Bill always was a great storyteller. There was a never-ending succession of "war stories", laughs and memories to share. When his battle with cancer paralyzed his vocal cords, he spent those long hours expressing himself through writing the short story "Murder at Woodside Village". Much to his family's joy the result is this hilarious spoof on the Boys in Blue/Chicago's Finest...a truly fictional tale based on very real characters!
