Upcoming:
Nervewrecking
My near future science fiction story will appear in the near future anthology 2020 Visions in the near future. The anthology is edited by Rick Novy and published by M-Brane, which reprinted my 2007 novelette "Outgoing" in Things We Are Not last year. M-Brane is offering a pre-order special for the print edition: $13.95 including shipping, plus a complimentary one-year electronic subscription to M-Brane SF Magazine. Chance of Snow
The final issue of Flytrap includes "Chance of Snow," my interactive fiction (choose-your-own-adventure type story) about falling in love with a woman who is made out of snow. A Wizard of MapQuest
A flash fiction story I wrote the first week of the Clarion writing workshop in 2006. Appeared in Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet #23, and was a finalist for the 2nd annual Micro Award for very short fiction published in 2008. Subscribe or buy the individual issue in paper or electronic format. Spoils of Springfield
The tenth issue of Shimmer includes my sort-of zombie story "Spoils of Springfield." It's available via subscription, individual issue, or free PDF. And some extras!: An interview with me shortly after my brain injury, and a partial reading of the story on YouTube. Contents
A flash fiction (non-genre) piece in the March-April 2008 issue of the literary magazine The Rambler. "Contents" appears on page 48, but, ironically enough, not in the issue's table of contents. Available in many independent bookshops, campus bookstores, and Barnes & Noble chains. Where to Buy. Outgoing
A science fiction/fantasy novelette about introversion and space adventure. First appeared in Asimov's Science Fiction, February 2007. Currently available in the 2009 M-Brane SF anthology Things We Are Not. Also available at Anthology Builder, Fictionwise, and the Amazon Kindle store. Dry Frugal with Death Rays
An absurdist (or at least absurd-ish), office place science fiction satire story. It was the August 2008 featured fiction at Futurismic. Paths to Autonomy
An interactive story (think "Choose Your Own Adventure") first published in the online humor zine Planet Relish in 2000, and reprinted in their "Best of" issue after readers ranked it the top story of the year. Now appears in the minicomic/zine Inconsequential Art #2, available in the Store. The Last Christmas of Mrs. Claus
"Betty was thirty-eight and still believed in Santa Claus. But sometimes he could be such an asshole." An inappropriate holiday story published in the anthology Thoughtcrime Experiments, available online. Alternatively available: online (direct link to the story), as a free PDF, and as a print-on-demand paper book. Wrote it at Clarion in 2006. Shooting Dogs for Fun and Profit
"Shooting Dogs" is a humor/horror/gangster romp based on an unproduced ten-minute play of mine. ChiZine/Chiaroscuro was nice enough to publish it in October 2007, and there it remains, archived until whenever. A bit of a postmortem for the story is available here, but it might kill any magic you thought was there before you came down from your marshmallow-high. Story-poems and gaming work can be found in Miscellany. |
