Upcoming (short films on their way to festivals): Timing is Everything
The first of two public service announcements for the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Council of North Carolina, directed by Steve Milligan, co-written by Alex Wilson. This one was meant for an audience of the younger folk. Available on YouTube. More details here. Unconditional
The second of two public service announcements for the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Council of North Carolina, directed by Steve Milligan, written by Alex Wilson. This one was meant for an audience of parents. Available on YouTube (and, yes, that's me with the beard). More details here. Otherwise Pandemonium
An adaptation of Nick Hornby's McSweeney's story of the same name. Directed by Brian McGinn (American Teacher) and co-written by Alex Wilson (and three other screenwriters). Alex also did some voiceover work. Unfortunately the director doesn't have the music rights to the current cut, so he can't make the short film public, but he occasionally provides private links to projects like these in the newsletter. ![]() Trade Up
Spec commercial for the Firefox web browser, 2006. Directed by Drew Buchanan, shot by Steve Milligan, written by Alex Wilson. Steve's technical details here, and the "film" itself at Firefox Films. And yes. That's Alex with the crazy Megan chasing after him, which he thinks happens to him more often than you'd think, though less often than he thinks. Must be all the Axe All's Fair in Love and Police Actions
What if an icon like Marvel's Captain America was to the U.S. government what Mickey Mouse has been to Disney? Here's what a taxpayer-funded Steamboat Willy might've looked like during the Vietnam War in 1971. An "offensive and brilliant" Southparkesque animation by Alex Wilson (writer, director/animator, all voices), 2005. Lots of inside jokes concerning superheroes, and it was created for a Wizard Magazine Direct-to-Video contest, which is why it's padding the "comics" section instead of confining itself to "film." "That was f--kin' tops, Alex!" - Brian K Vaughan "Amazingly funny and well-executed." - Cory Doctorow An IFILM "Clip of the Day," written, animated, and voice-acted by Alex Wilson. Quicktime file requires Quicktime 6 or later, available as a free download here. iPod Video (.m4v) file should be playable on any iPod released after October 2005. Also available on YouTube. Pan-and-Scan version (which further crapifies the animation) available at iFilm.
